Who better to photograph a cat than a fellow cat? The subject becomes the artist in this image of a cat seemingly photographing another cat in a basket, striking a glamorous pose with her neck gracefully outstretched.
This photo was taken in 1947 for the New York Herald Tribune by Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Nat Fein. Using a bulky Speed Graphic camera, Fein was known for photographing a vast array of subjects, from sleeping circus elephants to Mayor Fiorello La Guardia leading the Sanitation Department orchestra. He worked at the New York Herald Tribune from 1933 until the newspaper went out of business in 1966.
