This photo was taken for the New York Herald Tribune by Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Nat Fein. Using a bulky Speed Graphic camera, Fein was known for photographing a vast array of subjects, from sleeping circus elephants to Mayor Fiorello La Guardia leading the Sanitation Department orchestra. He worked at the New York Herald Tribune from 1933 until the newspaper went out of business in 1966.
